Power Struggles: Save Your Marriage Through Couples Counseling

January 11, 2012

Are you fighting all the time? Does it seem like you’re in a debate over who’s right? Is your partner more of an adversary than a loving friend? Other signs are the “minimizer”, who hides behind the paper, clams up, and claims nothing is the matter. Or, the person who is the “maximizer”, one who exaggerates their feelings, won’t leave issues alone, and seems needy for love? All of this points towards the Power Struggle stage of intimate relationship, and it happens in most marriages. Work with Jim so you can uncover and recover your closeness together in the shortest possible time.

Fighting leads to a state of high tension, where adrenaline, cortisol, and hormones are released. Too much of this tension, and disease can erupt. The main cause of divorce from all the fighting and distance is disinterest or indifference, the slow and insidious drifting apart. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

Through marriage counseling, learn empathy, respect, and communication skills with your partner. There are new ways to interact which can make you both feel closer. I can guide you even if your partner doesn’t want to go to couples counseling. When one person is open to change, this can open the door for the other person to grow too.

Be aware and focused about behaviors that make you feel closer. Try three appreciations a day towards your partner. Plan on spending enough quality time together. Pay attention to the others needs and feelings, without giving up who you are.

Learn relationship skills such as fighting fairly through reflective listening. Work through the normal pain and frustration of a knotted relationship by practicing self-soothing. Enjoy healthy relationship boundaries, where your sense of self doesn’t overlap with your partner’s. Uncover your inherent peace with your self and in your relationship with breathing techniques for improved sexuality. Yes, didn’t we all love the romantic stage, where the other magically took care of our anxiety? Learn how adult sex can tolerates and encourages more true closeness, and the anxiety becomes fun ENERGY! Even a few sessions can make a difference, so why not find out for your self?
